Dr Alicia Coduras, a statistical specialist at Institut Opinòmetre, has been invited to this year’s «2018 Community of Practice Meeting on Composite Indicators and Scoreboards». The event is organised annually by the European Commission section specialising in the construction of statistical indicators for the European Union, known as the Community of Practice.
This section is divided into areas that design, collect and process the information needed to construct complex indicators and indices across different fields, including those related to small and medium-sized enterprises and entrepreneurship. Alicia Coduras presented a paper entitled «Understanding the entrepreneurial phenomenon and its transformative benefits», discussing the main indicators currently provided by the GEM project. Some of these have been used by a subsection of the Community of Practice for five years.
Recent progress by the GEM observatory in developing new synthetic and complex indicators has attracted considerable interest among the scientific community that meets annually at the European Commission Joint Research Centre’s Modelling, Indicators and Impact Evaluation Unit in Ispra, Italy.
These workshops offer an important opportunity for statistical specialists from leading international socioeconomic organisations, including the United Nations, the World Bank and the World Economic Forum, to present, analyse, discuss and improve the main indicators used by public policymakers worldwide.
