Institut Opinòmetre conducted the 2018 Tourism Perception Survey in Barcelona for Barcelona Activa.

The study aims to understand Barcelona residents’ opinions of tourism in the city. Its target population is Barcelona residents aged 18 and over. The methodology consists of computer-assisted face-to-face interviews in respondents’ homes (CAPI).

The sample comprised 4,968 interviews spread across the months of 2018, from February to December, in four waves corresponding to the quarters of the year.

The study used stratified random sampling with quotas and sample allocation. Strata were defined by combining geographical areas, covering 5 districts at district level and dividing the other 5 into tourist neighbourhoods or groups of non-tourist neighbourhoods, with sex, age in 6 bands, and nationality, distinguishing Spanish and foreign residents. Sample allocation was fixed at territorial level and proportional to the population within each territorial unit, according to the municipal population register.
